Bamboo is the biggest grass species which has over 1,500 species and varied cultivars. Some giant timber bamboo plants can reach heights of more than 20 metres.

One of the world's fastest-growing plants can grow up to 1.5 metres per day.

Historical benefits - (past)

In South East Asia and Oceania, bamboo plants are valuable, used in gardens, buildings and constructions and as a form of transportation.

Many traditional tribes still use them to make bows and arrows, combs, flutes and arts and crafts.

Also, some bamboo varieties are edible and a substantial food source for panda bears and humans.

Bamboo bathroom and home products - (present)

Bamboo products such as kid's cutleries, bowls, cups, straws and cutting boards are a few examples of alternatives to plastic products.

Bamboo has natural antibacterial qualities and fantastic material for everyday home products.

Toothbrushes are necessary for maintaining oral hygiene, but the amount of plastic waste generated is worrying.

According to estimates, over 1 billion toothbrushes with non-biodegradable plastic handles and bristles add to the environmental pollution this year.

Many people are using eco-friendly toothbrushes to reduce plastic waste.

Bamboos are vital plants for afforestation because they can thrive in harsh environments, is fast-growing and tends to grow in large numbers.

They are also good substitutes for slow-growing trees.
